Service Description

Combining the formal practice of Ashtanga Yoga with variations of movement to provide a class that is both biomechanically informed, and accessible for most people. Suitable for complete beginners, and those wishing to learn an Ashtanga inspired approach in an informal way. This class will build strength, flexibility and mobility in a way that is both deep and playful. Ashtanga Yoga is a disciplined and rigorous practice taught in a formal way without music. Committing to the same series of Asanas (postures) and staying with the postures, means you are forced to engage with areas in your body and mind you might otherwise avoid if you always change the practice. By doing so, you grow in courage, strength, endurance and Discipline. There are however various issues with this approach to practice, including: Suitability for varied bodies - because the practice is symmetrical and the same, it is not always suitable for every body. Untamed Ashtanga - beginners - has come out of the way I have engaged with the Ashtanga Practice, combining this with somatic and embodied movement as well as the way my teacher Chris Gladwell has evolved this teaching of Ashtanga into a Kramic approach to suit varied bodies and abilities.
